In May, during the height of the Great Depression, Harry Overly started the Overly Sheet Metal Company on Madison Avenue in Cleveland Ohio
Overly Hautz Company Created
Edward Hautz joined Harry Overly’s enterprise and The Overly-Hautz Company is founded as a sheet-metal job shop with contracted work based on customer’s demand. Examples of the Company’s first product’s include: metal cabinets, brochure holders for the Pennsylvania Railroad, electrical enclosures, gear guards, access doors, hoods & machinery covers and many other varied industrial sheet metal parts.
8-Fold Expansion
The Overly-Hautz Company becomes a strong sheet-metal fabrication company in the Cleveland area and sees a large increase in business volume. The Company grows to occupy all 24,000 square feet of the building on Madison Ave, an 8-fold expansion.
Fabricated Steel Motor Mount
Overly-Hautz creates a fabricated steel motor mount for Reliance Electric. This fabrication job develops into a highly successful proprietary product line.
Adapt-O-Mount
Adapt-O-Mount product is first designed and fabricated by Overly-Hautz. It provides a simple method of adapting a new re-rated motor to the old mountings.
Edward Hautz Passes Away
Edward Hautz, an original founder of Overly Hautz passes away in December at 55 years of age.
Adjustable Motor Base Patent
Overly-Hautz awarded patent on the Adjustable Motor Base. Originally conceived in 1946 by Edward Hautz for a Reliance Electric job. After the passing of Mr. Hautz, it was patented 10 years later by Frank D Motts.
Harry Overly Passes Away

The Overly Hautz Motor Base Co acquires the product rights for the Automatic Motor Base invented and patented by Jerome Sloyan, the owner of the Automatic Motor Base Co, of Windsor, NJ, founded in 1943.
Pivoting Motor Base
The Overly Hautz Motor Base Co. purchases the product rights of the Murray Pivoted Motor Base from the Murray Equipment Co.
OHC Implements New ERP System
Overly Hautz launches a powerful new Enterprise Resource Planning system, E2 Solution from software provider Shoptech, aimed at optimizing business resources and shop operations.
Tenso-Set Quick Release Patent
Overly Hautz Motor Base Co. jointly develops the Tenso-Set Quick Release patent for Browning.
Additional Property Acquisition
The front end office moves to a newly renovated adjoining property at 285 S. West St. The additional facility also provides for expansion of finished goods inventory, a vast shipping facility and more manufacturing space.
Automatic® Motor Base Certification
The Automatic® Motor Base is certified as an energy saving device by Advanced Energy of Raleigh, NC, with payback on most models in 3 years or less. Advanced Energy is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board and the Standards Council of Canada as a Certification Body to ISO/IEC 17065 for Energy Efficiency Verification Services including small electric motors, electric motors and generators.
US Patent Awarded
The patent covers the invention of a screw mechanism which is used to adjust the position of a motor. The mechanism provides enhanced pulling power and a reduced likelihood of thread damage during use. This proprietary technology designed and manufactured by Overly Hautz has been seen to greatly increase product life cycle in the field and comes standard in their primary line of motor bases.
